Patricia Kenyon - Your Labour Candidate

I have lived in the City as a tenant with my husband for over four years. I work as a Consultant Patricia KenyonClinical Psychologist for the East London Foundation NHS Trust, based at Barts.  For over a decade I have been running a specialist unit here for post traumatic stress. I understand the importance of accessibility to the hospital for many patients coming from East London, the importance of public transport, good lighting and signage for the area, especially for more vulnerable patients and their families. The medical and nursing staff who have to travel round many local health sites face similar issues of security and access.

I know that it is the City’s tradition to have no party political candidates. But in these tougher times, tradition needs an open and transparent opposition. That way we can all be more accountable to you the voters, and ensure that residents and small businesses have a strong voice on Common Council.

As a Labour Party member, I want to work for a City for All, which means :
- Social justice; I will campaign for a Living Wage for low paid workers, including those   companies who supply the City with goods and services.  I would pay particular attention to the needs of families and pensioners entitled to state benefits to ensure they receive their entitlements.

- Better quality of life for City residents: I will fight to  ensure that residents without cars, pushing wheelchairs or prams have access to safe, clean, accessible, well lit and signposted streets. Existing facilities -parks, museums, green spaces and public spaces  should well maintained, ecologically designed and open to as many as possible at affordable or free rates.

- Transparency in governance: the City makes decisions that affect the lives of all who work and live here; developing new sites for buildings should involve residents at a much earlier stage of planning than is currently the case.
