Each part of the country is divided into constituencies for electoral purposes based on the number of the electors in each area. These areas are known as constituencies and the party organisation in these areas is known as the Constituency Labour Party or CLP for short. Each CLP is made up of branches made up of polling districts known as Wards within each CLP; these wards will elect three councillors at Local Council election times.

The Cities of London & Westminster Constituency covers a large part of Central London and includes areas such as Belgravia, Knightsbridge, Pimlico, Victoria, St James’s, Westminster, the Embankment, the West End, Bayswater and the City of London.

The Branch

A lot of Labour Party activity takes place at branch level. Labour members can take part in choosing local council candidates and select delegates for the CLPs Executive Committee which is the management team of the local party and the CLP’s General Committee which is the key decision making body.

The branch organises a number of events in the community and campaigns on local issues.

The Cities of London & Westminster Labour Party has five branches. Each Member who joins the CLP becomes a member of their nearest branch: Branches are based on Council Wards if you live in the City of Westminster you can find your ward by inputting your postcode into the Ward search engine on the City Council’s website. If you live in the City of London then you are a member of the City Branch.
